The formation and later misadventures of a Kent coastal village’s Home Guard platoon during WWII. Opened-out version of the BBC sitcom (filmed between series 3 and 4): while not as subtle as the TV version, nevertheless an affectionate portrait of class in wartime with a peerless cast of character actors.

Six months after the Pearl Harbour attack, the Japanese and US navies battle in the Pacific. Clunkily-scripted military action-drama that doesn’t have quite the effects budget needed to pull off its ambitious visual ideas. Poor lighting of greenscreen work doesn’t help. A decent cast of hunks and character actors do what they can.
In 1944, an invalided US radio operator working in the English countryside is troubled by nightmarish visions. A semi-pro production, limited by budget, script and acting issues. A couple of OK scares, but this is really a ripoff of The Nun padded out to feature-length with flashbacks and a convoluted time-travel element.
1944 France. A US squad behind German lines encounter a supersoldier programme. Well-mounted horror/military action hybrid that doesn’t quite make the most of its well-worn B-movie premise, but is great to look at and has an appealing young cast.

In 1944 Italy, a US army troop behind enemy lines find a crashed spaceship. Engaging-enough low-budget SF/horror/war hybrid, with a witty script and a keen sense of its modest production values.
Three linked stories, told in different timescales, related to the Allied retreat from Dunkirk. Equal parts puzzle, technical marvel, victory-from-defeat drama, disaster movie and arthouse flick, Nolan’s film is a thing of bleak and understated beauty. Highly recommended.
