Treasure hunters team up to find a fabled hoard. Very straightforward series of globetrotting scrapes, heists, and escapes based loosely on the long-running videogame series. Variable production values don’t help. Lead Tom Holland does what he can with the material, but this is tickbox stuff throughout.

On a world where male thoughts are visualised, a young man helps a stranded female astronaut. Ham-fisted loose adaptation of Patrick Ness’s The Knife of Never Letting Go. OK performances help, but a cut-and-shut script and dangling subplots evidence the movie’s troubled production.

Mismatched teen brothers in a post-magic fantasy land embark on a quest to communicate with their long-dead father. Straightforward relationship comedy/road movie with plenty of fun detail and some great animation, even if there aren’t any real surprises along the way.

An Ohio family is linked in different ways with a series of tragedies and crimes. Splendid adaptation of the Donald Ray Pollock novel; a brooding back country gothic noir meditating on faith and violence. Not for everyone, but there’s strong work from all concerned here. Recommended.

Peter Parker, on a European school trip with his classmates, comes into contact with both elemental monsters and a new superhero, Mysterio. Upbeat if overlong blend of teen road trip comedy and standard heroic action thrills, acting as a coda to Avengers: Endgame. Well-played and likeable, if episodic on several levels.
Spidey battles black marketeers selling alien weapons tech. Minor but enjoyable Avengers spinoff, with a great central performance from Tom Holland and a lot of heart, esp. in the first two acts before the CG team takes over.
