Die Hard 4.0 [AKA Live Free or Die Hard] (2007, dir. Len Wiseman)

John McClane and a young hacker track down a cyberterrorist. Fourth time out, the franchise has been retooled for pan-generational appeal, with muted levels of violence/language to suit. That said, it’s an entertaining analogue v digital thriller, with all digi-tropes present and some panache in the action design.

Here’s the trailer.

Deadwood [AKA Deadwood: The Movie] (2019, dir. Daniel Minahan)

Over a decade has passed since the events of the TV series, and Swearengen, Bullock and others have to face up to their pasts and their futures. Elegaic return to a splendid unfinished TV show that does the original justice. Recommended.

The Crazies (2010, dir. Breck Eisner)

A viral outbreak in a small Iowa town leads to a zombie-like infection and a military lockdown. Effective and well-sustained remake of the 1973 George Romero flick of the same name. Cynical, paranoid and subversive within its now-familiar genre framework.
