See How They Run (2022, dir. Tom George)

A murder occurs during a performance of The Mousetrap: an investigation begins. Ever-so-slightly pleased with itself mashup of allsorts – The Real Inspector Hound, Noises Off, Agatha Christie, even a Brian de Palma moment or two – that’s nevertheless brisk, funny, well-played, and looks great.

Here’s the trailer.

Stan & Ollie (2018, dir. Jon S Baird)

The ageing Laurel and Hardy reunite for a UK theatre tour, hopeful that this will restart their movie careers. Straightforward though handsome and respectful biopic of the black-and-white comedy legends, anchored by two exceptional lead performances and genuine affection for its subjects. Recommended.

T2 Trainspotting (2017, dir. Danny Boyle)

Mark Renton returns to Edinburgh, twenty years on. Confident sequel/reprise of the 1996 original. Plenty to enjoy and admire, even if there’s inevitably a spark of freshness missing.
