An LA gang’s debt collecting team comes up against a rival street organisation. Very straightforward gangland drama/thriller that doesn’t offer much that’s not been seen many times before. Despite director Ayer’s welcome return to the streets, this isn’t near his best work.

Spectacular – in the Debordian sense – SF comedy with excellent technical credits, but shot like the fever dream of a Sunny D-addled child. Excessive, and with a nasty after-taste. Four direct sequels followed.

A long-underground former radical has to go on the run when his new identity is revealed. Well-made, intelligent political thriller with a cast of character actors to die for. A little low-key for some, maybe, but this is a movie that delivers well on its own terms. Recommended.
A young man with Down Syndrome escapes his assisted living facility; he teams up with a troubled crab fisherman. A straightforward but nevertheless charming and unsentimental comedy-drama road movie with wrestling and a whiff of Huck and Tom about it. Fine soundtrack, and a cast in depth to die for. No surprises, but fun.
