A veteran Soviet submarine commander is sent on a final classified mission to test new technology. Okay Cold War flick that does nothing new, but which revels in the subgenre (!) to pleasing one-ping-only effect. Makes maximum use of an old Russian vessel for its principal location.

A cop in an isolated rebab facility is stalked by the serial killer who murdered his fiancee. Daft but enjoyable minor genre fare, mashing up Agatha Christie and The Thing along with a hundred other influences. A solid cast of shifty character actors keeps matters rolling along until the inevitable fighty finale.
The Boondock Saints (1999, dir. Troy Duffy)
Two Boston Irish brothers become vigilantes. Tatty post-Pulp Fiction gangster pic, more a series of set pieces than an actual linear movie. Some OK ideas along the way, and a couple of interesting performances, but this is three parts undisciplined mess to one part film.
Johnny Frank Garrett’s Last Word (2016, dir. Simon Rumley)
A framed prisoner curses those responsible for his execution. Generally effective descent-into-madness horror flick, somewhat uncomfortably adapted from a documentary account of a true story. Some ingenious moments though.
