Species II (1998, dir. Peter Medak)

The first Mars mission returns an alien infection to Earth. Trashy and at times bad taste sequel which – a couple of knowing/funny moments aside – focuses on female nudity, cut-price creature effect-based gore, rape fascination, and shouty characters doing dumb things. For Martian completists only.

Young Frankenstein (1974, dir. Mel Brooks)

A distant relative inherits both Frankenstein’s castle and interest in reviving the dead. Splendid homage/spoof of the 1930s Universal movies, this is a broad comedy made with respect for the originals while still ticking off every gag in the undead book. Recommended.

Red Heat (1988, dir. Walter Hill)

A Soviet cop comes to Chicago to extradite a prisoner. Dated but effective¬†and brutal mismatched buddies thriller with comic touches, this doesn’t recapture the magic of Hill’s 48 Hrs, but makes great use of Arnie and of Chicago locations.
