A woman is traumatised by visions of murder linked to her childhood. A schlocky prologue aside, this takes ages to get going, but when it does there’s loads of fun to be had in an Argento / Woo / Raimi mashup kinda way. A surer script and this would be a classic, but there’s still plenty to relish here.

A struggling family inherits a remote farmhouse formerly belonging to a Ghostbuster. A film of bits, some of them entertaining and fresh. Essentially a straight sequel to the 1984 film, it starts well as an 80s-style Amblin kid-centric comedy-drama, then reprises the original, then trips over fanservice.

A dysfunctional family including a young man in a persistent vegetative state moves into a house with a past. Odd franchise reboot (plus a touch of Patrick) with an interesting meta approach and a strong cast. Some competent jump scares and one neat story idea make this worthwhile for genre fans.

Babysitters working for The Warrens meddle with cursed artefacts, summoning a range of demonic entities. Okay series entry/sequel working to tie together the convoluted Conjuring franchise; slight on story, but some effective jumps, neat period details, and an appealing cast.
