Haunter (2013, dir. Vincenzo Natali)

A teenager finds she and her family are reliving the same day, and might be ghosts. Slight but effective supernatural yarn, held together by good performances and solid direction, though it yields few surprises.

Eloise (2017, dir. Robert Legato)

A young man and accomplices break into an abandoned asylum trying to find a death certificate worth millions. An oddly-complex story is buried in this otherwise ordinary jumpscare thriller. Naturally, the asylum is haunted and worse.

Insidious (2010, dir. James Wan)

A boy caught in a coma-like trance is channelling lost souls. Straightforward jumpscare machine, played effectively and with all the major tropes (unexplained stuff, tech investigation, kooky paranormalists) covered, Lots of spill-your-popcorn moments.
