Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian [AKA Night at the Museum 2] (2009, dir. Shawn Levy)

Larry and friends fight a reanimated pharaoh intent on conquering the world. Second and best of the family adventure flicks, not being saddled with set-up, and having confidence to play with its premise in fun and inventive ways. Highlights include Amy Adams and Hank Azaria, both revelling in their roles.

The Simpsons Movie (2007, dir. David Silverman)

After polluting Springfield so much that the government encloses the town in a massive dome, Homer goes on an odyssey to save his family. Weakened a little by expansion to movie-length, this is nevertheless a consistently funny flick with a few standout sequences.

Year One (2009, dir. Harold Ramis)

Two neolithic losers stumble into Old Testament-era civilization. Patchy lowbrow comedy ticking off every genitals-related gag in the scrolls. Some funny moments; the always-welcome Oliver Platt steals the show as a lascivious high priest.
