The Omen (1976, dir. Richard Donner)

An American diplomat discovers his adopted son is the Antichrist. Influential if over-serious post-The Exorcist studio horror pic, balancing classy casting and widescreen production values with setpiece deaths. Three sequels (one for TV), a TV series, and two remakes (one US, one Tamil) followed.

Marooned [AKA Space Travelers] (1969, dir. John Sturges)

A US space vehicle suffers a failure prior to re-entry: NASA works on solving the problem. Stolid SF drama trying to present a realistic version of an Apollo-ish space race-era disaster possibility. Slow and serious, and not especially dramatic as a consequence.

How The West Was Won (1962, dir. Henry Hathaway, John Ford & George Marshall)

The story of US westward expansion, told through one family over four generations. Epic Western (shot in Cinerama) of the old school, a triumph of US exceptionalism. Dated values-wise, but fascinating and fun in equal measure.
