The Unholy (2021, dir. Evan Spiliotopoulos)

A disgraced journalist stumbles across what appears to be a religious miracle. Autumnal modest adaptation of James Herbert’s novel Shrine, transplanted to New England. Fudges its approach: part investigative thriller, part jumpscare horror. One or other would have been better, though a solid cast does what it can.

Here’s the trailer.

Warcraft (2016, dir. Duncan Jones)

Humans and renegade orcs band together to save a world. Lovingly-made, detailed, and well-shot for 3D, this is nevertheless a standard greenscreen-heavy sword and sorcery flick which offers little by way of originality in either its characters or story.

The Angry Birds Movie (2016, dir. Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly)

Misfit birds have to channel their anger to rescue the eggs stolen from their village by piratical pigs. Unexpectedly superior animated comedy packing in buckets of slapstick, porky puns, and a little pathos into an engaging 90 minutes of game-based fun. A sequel followed.
