A long-underground former radical has to go on the run when his new identity is revealed. Well-made, intelligent political thriller with a cast of character actors to die for. A little low-key for some, maybe, but this is a movie that delivers well on its own terms. Recommended.

Cars 3 (2017, dir. Brian Fee)
The now-veteran racer Lightning McQueen has one last chance to prove he’s still competitive. Perhaps the best in the trilogy of Pixar’s least likeable franchise, this is a good-looking cartoon with a couple of laughs and a bit of heart.

Live By Night (2016, dir. Ben Affleck)
The rise of a hoodlum during Prohibition. Handsome, lovingly made, but slow, baggy, and uninvolving gangster pic. Clearly a labour of love, but too indebted to its source novel’s structure to make an engaging movie, despite good moments along the way.
Demolition (2015, dir. Jean-Marc Vallee)
A recently-widowed banker reassembles his life. Slight finding-yourself-again flick that does the usual things (wonky almost-romance, child mentor companion), except in a somewhat half-hearted way. A movie built around an idea for a single central scene.
