The Happytime Murders (2018, dir. Brian Henson)

A puppet PI and his former partner team up to solve a series of murders. It nearly works, but the emphasis on gross-out humour instead of playing the Roger Rabbit-ish concept means that some good moments, decent playing and undoubted technical expertise all get lost.

The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992, dir. Brian Henson)

A faithful adaptation of the Dickens novella, with the muppets cast plus Michael Caine as Scrooge. Good songs (by Paul Williams), Dickens – The Great Gonzo – acts as narrator, and an excellent Caine performance; he plays it admirably straight throughout, and delivers perhaps the finest single line-reading in cinema history.

Muppet Treasure Island (1996, dir. Brian Henson)

Patterned after the success of the peerless Muppet Christmas Carol, this romp through the RL Stevenson classic is less certain, but there are enough jokes, production detail, and exuberance to pass muster, plus two great songs (“Cabin Fever” and “Professional Pirate”).
