A mean TV executive is visited by a series of ghosts intent on teaching him the true meaning of Christmas. A raucous, overlong, and often unfunny retelling of A Christmas Carol, overly keen to cash in on its star’s links to Ghostbusters. Inevitably, some bits work nevertheless, and the film’s become something of a Yuletide perennial despite its weaknesses.
A deadbeat gambler goes on a road trip with a stranger he considers a lucky charm. A great, unassuming little movie with more than a touch of realism that works well with road movie tropes and allows Mendelsohn, in particular, the space to shine. Hugely recommended.
Picard and crew time-travel to mid-21st century Earth to ensure the Borg do not disrupt human space development. Action-centric first full feature for the Next Generation crew; this series continuation does a lot of stuff right, though there’s a lot of fan-service here.
When the earth’s core stops rotating, a mission is assembled to restart it. Enjoyably daft and self-aware big-budget B-movie, with an excellent cast of character actors playing the dopey material with an eye to stay on the right side of camp always.
