Robert the Bruce rebels against Edward I. Straightforward historical action drama in the Braveheart mould, with plenty of detail, production values aplenty and some gusto in the playing. Blood, mud and a trebuchet/mangonel device.
Two US soldiers are pinned down by a sniper. Low-key but well-sustained thriller with a straightforward premise, anchored by a couple of good performances and by direction that’s well-conceived enough not to make the piece stagey.
A woman reads her former husband’s novel. Good-looking though bleak slow-burn thriller intercutting between a novel and its reading; the fiction within the film is more interesting than the frame narrative, though. Michael Shannon superb in support.
