The Thing (2011, dir. Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.)

Hard to shake the overbearing presence of the original, this is actually a half decent creature feature that manfully attempts to answer all the questions no one really needed answering from the first film. Finally, we know how that axe got there.

  1. I remember it being pointless but enjoyable enough in its own way, tho the late decision to use CG over practical creature effects was a mistake. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a reliable fixture in these kinds of things – she should get more work; was good in both the Cloverfield sequel and in Final Destination 3.
